Imagine you're in the sticks of Louisiana and you come across a very large dixie flag-laden 4x4 blazing away through the night, loaded with a bed full of straw-chewing, gun-toting hicks with nearly empty whisky bottles sympathetically swaying in their hands to the rhythm of their swaggering, drunk bodies. Now imagine them playing Metal, and you have Agony Column. The unlikely mixture of rockabilly and metal is pulled off extremely well by these guys. It is aggressive enough for most Metal fans, but has a backwoods quality that will pull a even a straight-up Sknynyrd hick into the pit. There was nothing quite like skins and hicks in the same vortex at Liberty Lunch back in the early 90's. Any of their 4 releases are a definite must in any Texas metal collection: 'God, Guns & Guts' - 1989, 'Agony Column Comes Alive' - 1990, 'Brave Words and Bloody Knuckles' - 1991, 'Way Back in the Woods' - 1994?? (not sure about that one). Agony Column is not currently active, but keep your eyes peeled on this site to find out about future reunion shows.
